About 10 days ago, a picture starting going around Facebook of a little senior girl in the West Haven, CT pound. She was in very bad shape. She was extremely skinny, had some tumors on her belly and had some rotted teeth. No pup deserves to be in a shelter and this goes double for seniors. They have given their whole existence up to that point to someone and to have them end up in a shelter for whatever reason is just unfair to them. When we first saw this picture we hoped and prayed that someone would come for her. Maybe she was just a stray and her owners were looking for her, but as the days passed and no one came we knew we had to try to help her. She needed to get to a vet ASAP and get those tumors removed and get some of those rotten teeth taken out. We sent one of our volunteers to meet her and within 2 seconds she fell in love and then the wheels started turning. Well, thankfully there was another group out there looking at the same picture of the same dog. That group was Running for Rescues. Running for Rescues is a group that raises money to help shelter and rescue dogs get the medical care they so deserve by enlisting runners to raise money by getting sponsorship from fellow dog lovers and simply running in a local road race. When they saw the story on this little girl they knew they had to help as well. Running for Rescues is not a foster group, They will on occasion take in a pup or 2 when they can but it’s not their mission. It was at that point that our 2 groups came together and hopefully changed the life of this one special pup. R4R was willing to sponsor her vetting if we could identify a foster for her. Well, that was the easy part for us.

It's amazing what a hair cut can do!!!! TDR had quite the roller coaster day on Thursday and had another “Oh, what’s one more moment”. We got a call from a local animal control officer about a pup in need. She was signed over to the shelter as she was rescued by a concerned family member from a very neglectful situation. This poor little girl has never seen a vet in her whole entire 9 years of existence. Her nails were over grown, her hair was long and matted. Her teeth are in bad shape. She also has a very large mammary growth. We knew that underneath all that hair there was a beautiful little pup that just needed some help. Thanks to the wonderful staff of Wolcott animal control, Our newest girl was brought to Mack and Molly’s grooming in Terryville and they gave our little girl the very first step in becoming just as beautiful on the outside as we know she is on the inside. We brought here to the vet and they gave us a game plan on how to help this little girl. It won’t be easy and she has a long road ahead of her but we need to try. After years of neglect, she only deserves the best from here on in. If there is anyone out there willing to open up their home to a little 4.6 lb girl please contact us. She has some years left and deserves to live them never wanting for anything and always knowing love. Please take a moment to welcome our newest girl “Pixie” to TDR See More information
Our amazing adoptables!!!!!!
Good Morning Everyone. We just wanted to give an update on Piper's vision. She was seen last week by an veterinarian ophthalmologist who said that Piper has no vision due to a congenital condition and surgery is not an option. While we were... saddened to hear this, we knew that this lil' pup doesn't need to look you in the eye to steal your heart. Her foster family is fine with allowing her to continue with them vision or not and promises not to move the furniture on her. However, her FM indicated that they were unsure of the diagnosis because they believed that she has some sight in her other eye. We scheduled a second opinion with another ophthalmologist who confirms that Piper's left eye is responsive to light and that while her right eye has lost all sight, and her left will eventually, she can see shadows and has “low vision”. We are ecstatic for our Piper and although we cannot restore her vision, we will now concentrate on her orthopedic needs. Her wonderful FM will be scheduling a consult to see if her improperly repaired femur fracture can be corrected and the BB removed from her abdomen. Fingers and paws crossed we can do something for this sweet little girl.
