Join us in a summer photo contest!
Take a pic of your dog doing something summery and tag it to #thankdogdaysofsummer Be creative, artistic, funny, beautiful or simply one of a kind. Post up and you could win a “pawesome" Dean Russo print, and not just any Dean Russo print. It’s a 16 x 20 limited edition print on canvas. Only BEST in SHOW (most votes) wins this coveted prize.
Remember, this contest encompasses both Instagram and Facebook, so there's some stiff competition. The Top 20 photos with the most votes on Instagram or Facebook by August 18th will continue to the final round.
This final round of voting will take place on Facebook only (sorry, Instagram). We realized only after we launched the contest that there are some serious "Instagrammers" with HUGE followings, so we are also limiting each unique Instagram account, one final photo entry. We will ask you when the time comes to choose your final entry. We will compile the final 20 entries into a Facebook album on August 18th for everyone to vote. So sorry to switch up the rules mid-contest, but we want everyone to have a fighting chance at the grand prize.
Thank you for supporting us! #teamthankdog

Failure is not an option in rescue, except when we have a foster failure. Thank Dog Rescue is over the moon about welcoming our newest adoptive family and foster failures, the Jasmins. It seems that Piper has been home all along with Kristi...n, Mike, Connor, Pumpkin and Peanut. Her dedicated family has been giving her all the love and care a pup deserves and has been bringing her here, there and everywhere for all of her medical consults. In the end, they realized they could never let her go and that she was right where she belonged all along. We couldn't agree more. And if a forever home isn't happy enough news, we have been told by Piper's vet that surgery is not necessary for her leg and that she will be A OK with a shortened leg, since she is pain free. Thank you Jasmins for seeing Piper's perfect imperfections and loving her to the moon and back. #adopted
Please take a moment to welcome TDR’s newest arrival, Izzy. Izzy is a 16 month old female Australian Sheppard. Izzy is the prototypical Australian Sheppard in every sense of the word. For those who have had the pleasure of being around them... know what we mean. Izzy needs a very active family that will be dedicated to keeping her busy. A fenced in yard would be a big, big plus for this girl. Izzy is OK with other dogs but does like to herd. We are unsure of Cats at this time. Because of her herding nature, Small children may not work. If you think you can provide Izzy with the home she needs, Please go to our webpage thankdogrescue.org/adopt for an online application. Breed experience would be a plus here

About 10 days ago, a picture starting going around Facebook of a little senior girl in the West Haven, CT pound. She was in very bad shape. She was extremely skinny, had some tumors on her belly and had some rotted teeth. No pup deserves to be in a shelter and this goes double for seniors. They have given their whole existence up to that point to someone and to have them end up in a shelter for whatever reason is just unfair to them. When we first saw this picture we hoped and prayed that someone would come for her. Maybe she was just a stray and her owners were looking for her, but as the days passed and no one came we knew we had to try to help her. She needed to get to a vet ASAP and get those tumors removed and get some of those rotten teeth taken out. We sent one of our volunteers to meet her and within 2 seconds she fell in love and then the wheels started turning. Well, thankfully there was another group out there looking at the same picture of the same dog. That group was Running for Rescues. Running for Rescues is a group that raises money to help shelter and rescue dogs get the medical care they so deserve by enlisting runners to raise money by getting sponsorship from fellow dog lovers and simply running in a local road race. When they saw the story on this little girl they knew they had to help as well. Running for Rescues is not a foster group, They will on occasion take in a pup or 2 when they can but it’s not their mission. It was at that point that our 2 groups came together and hopefully changed the life of this one special pup. R4R was willing to sponsor her vetting if we could identify a foster for her. Well, that was the easy part for us.
