foster plea for web.jpg

Fostering is one of the most rewarding ways to volunteer. Some people shy away from fostering because they are afraid to get too attached to the dog. So what if you get too attached? A foster fail is our favorite kind of fail! Yes, a foster fail might mean that we lose that foster home for a future dog, but at least we've found a great home for one in our rescue. Isn't it far better to give a dog a chance and experience a loving home, than to let him or her suffer in a shelter, or worse, euthanized for no other reason than lack of space? Our foster families think so.

Thank Dog Rescue pays for all vetting, food, and supplies. We just need YOU  to open your heart and home to a dog in need.  We only ask that you commit for the duration of time it takes to get the dog HOME. Please understand that some dogs are with you a few short weeks, while others stay for months, and sometimes years. Give of your heart and the reward is priceless. We're pretty sure once you start, you won't be able to stop.

A few things to keep in mind prior to completing this application:

  • You must be at least 21 years old and reside in your own home in Connecticut. We only wish the most stable environment for our pups. If you have roommates, everyone must be on board with you fostering. If you still live with your parents, we will review your application on a case-by-case basis and will require their permission before moving forward with your application.

  • Landlord and/or condo association consent (if applicable).

  • Be willing to travel to and from events and agree to go to our approved veterinary partners in Berlin, Madison, Milford, Monroe, Naugatuck, New Fairfield, Old Lyme, Plantsville, Stratford, and Watertown, unless there is another veterinarian closer in proximity that offers a rescue discount.

  • Believe in and practice positive reinforcement training and non-aversive training methods (shock, choke, prong collars and invisible/electric fences are NOT WELCOME here!)

  • If approved to foster, sign and abide by terms outlined in the Foster Agreement.

Our goal is to find the best fit for all because fostering is a commitment. We carefully screen all applicants, conduct home visits AND meet and greets to ensure that all members of the family get along harmoniously.
